The story of Ronta is rooted in the biblical vision of a Saviour who will come for the poor, the downtrodden and the lonely...Gentle, sensitive and reliable, Ronta has problems with which young children will readily identify. But like all the best stories, this one speaks to adults as well. "Ronta has the secret of the Kingdom, for to want Jesus is to have him, to ask is to receive, to knock is to find the door opened.

Shiro Fujimoto's original illustrations are superb. Each character has personality and expression; each image is full of life, colour and interesting detail. The colours have the quality one associates with Japanese art - delicate, yet electric - and are sensitive to the changing moods of the story. Some of the scenes are gentle and moving, some powerful and dramatic, but all have the same fresh brilliance and are outstandingly beautiful.
