Grandma Ernestine is planting a seed in the garden with her granddaughter, Davina. They plant the seed in troubled times - a mixed race family at a time when it was not acceptable. Grandmother and daughter wait for something to happen, but seeds take time to grow. As they grow, Davina is growing too, and she finally makes friends of different races. In the end the garden is complete, and every colour and hue imaginable is there. Davina grows up and has her own family in a world where colour is no longer a dividing line.
