LOUSIA MAY ALCOTT was born in Pennsylvania, in 1832, the second of four daughters. After a period of serving as an army nurse, she published HOSPITAL SKETCHES in 1863, followed by Gothic Romances and lurid thrillers. In 1868-9 she published LITTLE WOMEN, which proved so popular that it was followed by two sequels and several other novels. She died in 1888. Louisa May Alcott (1832-88) wrote several classic novels inspired by her New England childhood, and was also active in the Suffragette movement.

This is the story of the March sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy as they grow up from children to women in Concord, Massachusetts during the 19th century. The family are newly impoverished so the father goes off to serve as a chaplain in the American Civil War. The March sisters work to help support the family, make new friends and fall in love is this coming of age novel.
