Phonics is the standard way that children are taught to read in school, by connecting the sounds of words with how they are written. The new Letts Learn to Read with Phonics books provide essential support for these first vital steps into reading and learning to spell. Full-colour, highly illustrated and packed with games, these books offer a fun and interactive way to start reading. An Introduction for Parents provides helpful advice on how to use the scheme, endorsing what children are learning in school. There are also handy Parent's Tips on each page giving practical advice that allows the parent to understand and support their child's first efforts in Literacy as they progress through each book.

This is book 6 in Learn To Read With Phonics .

This book is aimed at children in primary school. This reading book uses the phonics method. This approach concentrates on teaching children how to map between sounds and spellings, allowing them to decode written words into their constituent sounds. Phonics skill thus involves being able to split the written word 'cat' into the phonemes /k/, /a/, /t/, and to map from letter 'c' to phoneme /k/, from letter 'a' to phoneme /ae/ and from letter 't' to phoneme /t/. Decoding skill is useful when reading unfamiliar words which use regular spelling sequences.

There are 32 pages in this book. This book was published 2001 by Letts Educational .
