Great for age 9-13 years
In 1995 we approached the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with a proposal: Let us squeeze your priceless, 3-million-piece art collection between the covers of a Klutz book. And then we'll unhook all the Please Stand Back chains and open up all your display cases. Once the trustees got back into their chairs, it turned out to be a partnership and a concept full of unexpected magic. Both of us spent five devoted and bi-coastal years on Artrageous. Which is all the more amazing when you realize that the book isn't completely done yet. That's because this over-sized - 9 inches square - book is designed not only to be read, but also to be stickered, painted, pounded, rubbed, woven, soaked and poked. (It's all about creativity - not preservation). Of course we include all the supplies essential to hands-on experience, including a copper-coloured foil cover with acetate overlay, light sensitive paper, a paint brush, colour pigments, tracing paper and a whole gallery of stickers. All of these materials are surrounded by the Met's great works of art and great help from us on creating great art of your own. Even by the standards of Klutz, Artrageous is an amazing production, filled with our trademark wit and imagination, but this time played out in the halls of one of the most distinguished art museums in the world.
