826 National (San Francisco, CA) is a nonprofit tutoring, writing, and publishing organization founded in 2002 by author Dave Eggers and educator Ninive Calegari. 826 assists students ages 5 to 18 with their writing skills, and helps teachers get students excited about writing. With centers in S. F. , Ann Arbor, NYC, Chicago, L. A. , Seattle, Boston, and DC, 826 provides free drop-in tutoring, class field trips, writing workshops, and in-schools programs. Lisa Brown is the illustrator and/or author of nine books, including Picture the Dead, How To Be, The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming, and Baby Mix Me A Drink. She is a long time supporter of 826 Valencia and a regular volunteer in our Field Trip and Workshop programs. Justin Carder has been working with 826 Valencia as a volunteer, and on the staff, for five years. He is the editor or the 826 Quarterly, and has served on editorial boards for many other 826 publications. He is a writer, designer and artist, and has exhibited work and performed all over the United States. Carder is the Pirate Store and Publishing director at 826 Valencia. Lisa Brown is the New York Times bestselling author/illustrator of a number of books for young readers including How to Be and Vampire Boy's Good Night and The Latke That Couldn't Stop Screaming. She also illustrated the critically acclaimed Emily's Blue Period for Roaring Brook Press. She lives in San Francisco with her husband, Daniel Handler, and their son. The Airport Book is Lisa's second book for Roaring Brook Press.
