This is one of a new series of books, "Read and Discover", designed to encourage children to learn about the world as they learn to read. Everywhere you look, there are walls. Straight and round walls, high and low walls, hot and cold walls...But how are they built? What are they for? And when you come down to it - what is a wall, after all? This title supports KS1 - 2 Science and Literacy, in consultation with the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education. It is suitable for non-fiction for developing readers. It features texts and illustrations which support children learning to read. It offers extra information section at the back of the book with index, author and illustrator biography.

This book is suitable for Key Stage 1. KS1 covers school years 1 and 2, and ages 5-7 years. A key stage is any of the fixed stages into which the national curriculum is divided, each having its own prescribed course of study. At the end of each stage, pupils are required to complete standard assessment tasks.

Judy Allen is an award-winning author who has written successfully for both children and adults. Her novels for young people include "Something Rare and Special", "Travelling Hopefully" and "Awaiting Developments". Judy lives in London.
