Smith is a well-known illustrator of numerous books for children, includes Abrams' Gregor Mendel and Circus Train. He is a professor of fine arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, where he has taught drawing, painting, and figure sculpture. Jos. A. Smith has illustrated many popular picture books, including Goblins in Green (by Nicholas Heller, Greenwillow Books), A Creepy Countdown (by Charlotte Huck) and Clay Boy (by Mirra Ginsburg). He is also the author of a book on drawing, The Pen and Ink Book (Watson Guptill). He lives in New York. Marcia Sewall has lived in New England all of her life, presently in Boston, and feels a deep attachment to the region. She is a graduate of Brown University in Rhode Island and has also studied at various art schools in the area. The Newbery Award-winning author of The Whipping Boy, Sid Fleischman is an author of more than sixty children's books, as well as screenplays, novels for adults, and books on magic. He lives in California.
