The story begins with our trio settled peacefully on Thor Gunnarrsson's farmstead in Greenland. When Viking raiders arrive at the farmstead, their quiet world is disturbed forever. Leiv, Apuluk and Narua must rely on their wits, their courage, and their friendship to protect their new home. HELEN CANN has been working as an illustrator for a number of years, increasingly specializing in children's books. For Lion she has illustrated Who Laid the Cornerstone of the World and A Child's Book of Celtic Prayers and Baboushka. Jorn Riel was born in 1931 in Odense, Denmark. He has travelled extensively and written over forty novels and short stories. His writings on life in the Arctic region, inspired by the sixteen years he spent living in Greenland as a young man, have brought him widespread acclaim. The Inuk Quartet, which has been published in Danish, French, and German, is his debut in the English language. Helen Cann has painted in studios of all shapes and now stirs up inspiration above a milkshake shop in Brighton. She has illustrated many titles for Barefoot Books, including Little Leap Forward , The Barefoot Book of Mother & Daughter Tales and We're Riding in a Caravan. An adventurous traveller, she drew on a visit to the Arctic Circle in preparing the illustrations for this story.
