Initially trained and working as a Fine Artist, Jon Hughes made the shift to traditional illustration by the mid 1980's, making the transition to Digital 2&3D work in 1998, and has been continuing to attract commissions, with numerous published titles to his name. Clients have included: The Natural History Museum London, National Geographic, American Museum of Natural History, National Museum of Scotland, Canadian Museum of Nature, Alaska Heritage Museum, to name but a few. Ngareta Gabel (Te Paatu and Ngati Kahu) was raised in Kawakawa, Northland, and now lives in Kaikohe with her partner Charles Rolleston and their daughter Tekiteora. Jonathan was born in 1965, the son of a rig fitter and a primary school teacher. He first developed his skills as a writer and illustrator while studying architecture, illustrating poems and lyrics that he had written. After leaving college, he worked as an architect for several years, before pursuing a career in children's books. In addition to writing books such as Bringing Down the Moon, and Ruby Flew Too, he also paper-engineers pop-up books.
