This title examines the remarkable events which occurred in Russia during the first half of the 20th century. From Tsarist monarchy to communist dictatorship, the narrative charts the events which led up to the revolution of 1905, World War I, the revolutions of 1917, the downfall of the Tsar, the new Soviet state and the civil war which ensued. Emphasis is also given to the roles of Lenin and Stalin, with examinations of the different interpretations of the leaders' influence and policies.
