Ian Champion's mum and dad came to parenthood late - and by accident. Ian was the result of a hot summer night, a French film retrospective, and a twenty four hours a day, seven days a week chemist being inexplicably closed. It wasn't a good start and now - fourteen years later - his parents have had enough. Two matching mid-life crises later, they've left each other. Only, neither of them realised the other had gone too. Now Ian's home alone, but not for long. Before he knows it he's been parcelled up and sent to stay with his grandfather Barry - in England. Suddenly from Sydney and its sun, sand and surf, Ian finds himself in chilly Yorkshire, faced with football, flatcaps and flooding - as well as insane neighbours, including one who's stockpiling instant noodles in his cellar, convinced that the end of the world is nigh...It's going to be a challenge - but Ian reckons he'll soon fit in...
