Framework RE is designed to deliver the new National Framework for Religious Education at Key Stage 3. The 3 books (one book for Years 7, 8 and 9) combine to create a motivating activity-based course for pupils. Book3 is aimed at Year 9 pupils. The course includes the Literacy and Thinking Skills strands of the Key Stage 3 Strategy; differentiated activities; Assessment for Learning; activities and assessments linked to the 8-level scale; philosophical and ethical issues in preparation for Key Stage 4; opportunities to reflect on personal experience; and religions with a significant presence in the UK and world.

The term Young Adult (YA) is used for books which have the following characteristics: (1) aimed at ages 12-18 years, US grades 7-12, UK school years 8-15, (2) around 50-75k words long, (3) main character is aged 12-18 years, (4) topics include self-reflection, internal conflict vs external, analyzing life and its meaning, (5) point of view is often in the first person, and (6) swearing, violence, romance and sexuality are allowed.
