This is a highly original story, combining the very real world of a children's home with the magical imagination of one of the children. Bella lives in a children's home. But in her visits to town, she finds escape in the cathedral, where characters step out of the windows and carvings to speak to her and give her advice. The story follows Bella's struggle to come to terms with her life in the home, and the terrible disappointment of a reunion with her mother. Joe Hackett is a brand new author, who has spent many years working with troubled and disadvantaged children.

There are 160 pages in this book. This book was published 2004 by Oxford University Press .
