Wendy Cope is best known for her award-winning contemporary poetry for adults, but has also written extensively for children. Jane Ray is the Smarties-prize winning illustrator of over 30 books. Angela Huth has written eleven novels, four collections of short stories and plays for stage, radio and television. She lives in Oxford, is married to a don and has two daughters. The work of George Mackay Brown (1921-96) is defined by the spirit and history of the Orkney islands. He managed to give the culture, land and oral tradition of the islands universal significance. Throughout his prolific writing career, he found inspiration in the history and folklore of Orkney. Joan Aiken is one of the best loved authors of the twentieth century, and has written over a hundred books for young readers and adults, including "A Necklace of Raindrops," "The Winter Sleepwalker and Other Stories," and "The Youngest Miss Ward. "
