Who discovered dinosaurs? What did dinosaur skin feel like? Were there forests in prehistoric times? This highly informative guide answers these questions and more, providing a biological, historical and evolutionary context for this fascinating group of reptiles. Using easy-to-grasp comparisons--neck to crane, backbone to suspension bridge, leg to Greek pillar-- Dinosaur helps youngsters better understand how dinosaurs such as Diplodocus and Mamenchisaurus moved about and defended themselves. Dispelled are common dino-myths, including the mistaken notion that most dinosaurs were huge, carnivorous beasts (in fact, many were not much bigger than a cockerel). Various theories regarding dinosaur extinction (boredom, eating poisonous plants, a massive meteorite), as well as descriptions of how these beloved creatures are dug up and rebuilt, are presented. With hundreds of eye-catching photos and drawings, this book is a must for any budding young palaeontologists.
