On holiday with their New Zealand cousins, twins Michael and Martin McDonald, Hannah and Helen help look after Stalky, an orphaned baby kiwi. A proposed new resort near to the McDonald's house threatens the rich natural habitat of this part of the North Island's coastline. Ironically, it is to be called Kiwi Coast, latching on to the country's national emblem, yet at the same time destroying its home. Farmers and the McDonalds oppose the resort. Developers are pitched against ecologists and locals, while all the time Stalky's fate hangs in the balance...
