Meera the evil witch has turned Lorien, a wizard, into a parrot and has used him as bait to trap Molly. The trap sprung, Molly is pursued through the streets to her home in a derelict block of flats. Meera likes to ride a dragon in order to frighten her victims and it is in this guise that she attacks Molly's home burning it down. Lorien taps Molly's power to save her and Molly recovers in hospital. It is when she leaves here that Meera tries to entrap her in a terrible children's home, and Molly is only saved when Bill Dearing sneaks her away. Bill finds that Molly has relatives up in the North close to the Magical Abbey and they catch the night train to evade the witches that are trying to catch them. Molly learns to fly a broomstick and is just beginning to feel at home when Meera, power renewed returns. Meera almost destroy Molly and it is only the skill of Meera's sisters who fight against Meera that helps her destroy them.
