In town and at school, Rink and his family are treated as outcasts although no-one knows his strange botanical secret. But one day a new girl arrives at school, and Rink discovers she has some unique qualities of her own. Original use of language and unexpected, fantastical elements make this a memorable and moving tale. Subtle portrayal of disability and the importance of celebrating differences. AR Level: 4.7 Intimate, warm message provides an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss the subject of friendship.
