* This nonfiction title for ages 7 through 10 allows students to explore geometry in their immediate environments, including the classroom, community, backyard, and nature.
* Readers form a thorough understanding of geometric concepts at an early age, developing a solid comfort level with mathematics that will serve as a foundation for later, more difficult concepts.
* Meets the Common Core State Standards and NCTM.
* Uses an experiential, hands-on approach to encourage readers to discover geometry in their world, and understand the reality-based underpinnings of geometry in their everyday lives.
* STEAM activities are tactile and require movement, as students are "learning by doing," which creates self-efficacious, accomplishment-based learning experiences. This enhances cognitive recall of learning and allows students to generalize geometric concepts in the context of their environments.
* Encourages the development of important skills, including problem solving and model testing.
* Uses an inquiry-based approach to encourage readers to experiment with engineering designs and reach their own conclusions about what works and what doesn't.
* Uses links to online primary sources to engage readers in further, independent study.
* Guided Reading Levels and Lexile measurements indicate grade level and text complexity.
