Thorgal has been gone for three years. Now, the last raiding expedition organised by the men of his village is late in returning. When a single survivor stumbles in to announce that their drakkar was boarded by the dreaded Shaigan, he also reveals that Shaigan is actually...Thorgal! Outraged, the grieving, vengeful Viking women banish Aaricia and her children and brand her an exile. All that's left for them is to try to find Thorgal again.

Jean Van Hamme was born in 1939 in Belgium. His major breakthrough came in 1977, when he created the Viking hero "Thorgal" for Grzegorz Rosinski. The mix of medieval legends and heroic fantasy soon became a huge success, with major awards following. He is also the creator of the bestselling series "Largo Winch" and "XIII" (published in English by Cinebook). Grzegorz Rosinski is one of the most popular artists of comic books in Western Europe. Among his later works are the series "Chninkel" (with Van Hamme) and a series titled "La complainte des landes perdues" (with Jean Dufaux). In 2001, the Rosinski/Van Hamme duo published yet another comic book titled Western, based on a Western plot. Jean Van Hamme and Ted Benoit are one of two teams who carried on the Blake and Mortimer series after its Belgian creator's death in 1987 (the other team was made up of Yves Sente and Andre Juillard). Jean Van Hamme's popular series, also published by Cinebook, are Thorgal, Largo Winch and Lady S. The artist Ted Benoit is a big admirer and supporter of the A"ligne claireA" instituted by Herge and E. P. Jacobs.
