Great for age 11-18 years
"The Key to GCSE: French Speaking Skills" offers a pack of photocopiable worksheets and a cassette (0-7195-7627-X) to help students improve and practise speaking skills (conversation, role play and presentation on a chosen topic), and to achieve their best possible grade at GCSE. The conversation worksheets provide a list of likely questions on the topics, and "version de base" of possible answers, with simple guidelines on how the answers could be improved. Model "version de luxe" answers are provided for a few of the questions, and students prepare their own "versions de luxe" for the remaining questions. The role-play worksheets take students step-by-step through a role-play sequence, placing equal emphasis on topic vocabulary and key phrases which are useful in any topic context. Students can carry out a role-play task working either with a partner or with the recorded prompts on the cassette. The presentation sheets begin with devising an "aide-memoire" card for a given topic, and work through to a "version de base" model of a spoken piece. Practical tips on how this could be improved are provided on worksheets which are differentiated for Foundation tier and Higher tier candidates: the Foundation tier sheets help students to produce work at a level equivalent to Grade C, while the Higher tier sheets show students how to target a Grade A or A*.
