"The White House Is Burning: August 24, 1814" by Jane Sutcliffe recounts the dramatic events surrounding the British invasion of Washington, D.C., during the War of 1812. The narrative vividly depicts the chaos and fear as British troops march into the capital, culminating in the burning of the White House and other government buildings. Through the eyes of various historical figures, including President James Madison and First Lady Dolly Madison, the story explores themes of courage, resilience, and patriotism in the face of destruction. It captures a pivotal moment in American history, illustrating both the fragility and strength of a young nation. [Generated by language model - please report any problems].
