The "Letterland" ABC and the 20 "Letterland" storybooks introduce and tell stories about the "Letterland" characters. Adventures and colour illustrations entertain and educate children. The books can be read aloud to beginning readers to advance their listening skills and heighten their appreciation of letter sounds and alliterative fun. Young readers should take pleasure in reading all about the characters and their adventures. Parents should also enjoy sharing the experience. The books provide a systematic and structured approach to learning which can contribute significantly to a teaching programme by: emphasizing the listening, speaking and communicative elements of language learning; teaching phonic skills; introducing whole word recognition skills; encouraging sentence awareness and reading for meaning; developing reading and spelling together; and providing practice in early creative writing. This storybook and cassette pack enhance the storytelling experience.

She has been involved in illustrating Letterland since its creation and also takes a keen interest in writing children's books. Lyn Wendon is reading specialist who devised Letterland as a remedy for reading failure. Working among children with learning difficulties, she found they needed a style of teaching that not only explained letter behaviour, but also fired their imaginations. The result was Letterland!
