Beverley Naidoo is a South-African born writer and an educationalist. Apartheid prevented her and her Indian husband living in their country of birth, so they moved to Bournemouth, where Beverley is an Advisory Teacher for Cultural Diversity. Melvin Burgess was born in London and brought up in Surrey and Sussex. He has had a variety of jobs before becoming a full-time writer. Before his first novel, he had short stories published and a play broadcast on Radio 4. Three of his novels have been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Benjamin Zephaniah Birmingham-born Zephaniah is the author of a number of poetry collections for both adults and children, including Funky Chickens, Too Black, Too Strong and We are Britain. He has also written three novels -- Face, Refugee Boy and Gangsta Rap. Ann Halam is the internationally-acclaimed author of ghost and horror stories for children and science fiction (as Gwyneth Jones) for adults. She has been shortlisted for many awards including the WH Smith Mind Boggling Books Award and has twice won the World Fantasy Award. She lives in Brighton. Jan Mark is a prestigious children's author and has been writing children's books for over 30 years.
