Time is running out for Augustus Stitch. Born on the 29th February, his birthday falls once every four years. While his friends live to be eighty, Augustus will die at the tender age of twenty. Jamie Rix was born in London in 1958 and has three brothers and sisters. He is also a TV Producer and Director and has worked on comedy shows such as Smith and Jones and many others. He lives in Battersea with his wife and two children Ross Collins was born in Glasgow in 1972. In his last year at college, he won the Macmillan children's book prize. He lives in Glasgow and is now an established picture book illustrator.

Maria likes to be alone with her thoughts. She talks to animals and objects, and generally prefers them to people. But whilst on holiday she begins to hear things that aren't there - a swing creaking, a dog barking - and when she sees a Victorian embroidered picture, Maria feels a strange connection with the ten-year-old, Harriet, who stitched it.But what happened to her? As Maria becomes more lost in Harriet's world, she grows convinced that something tragic occurred-
