My Side of the Story is completely unique approach to historical fiction. Read the story of one youngster's life in turbulent times, then flip the book and find out first hand how another child reacts to the same events - with very different feelings and results! 12 year old Melody is an adventure-loving young girl who lives in Virginia. She dislikes the sewing her sisters Elisabeth and Jasmine are so good at, and prefers to ride her beloved horses. Her simple life becomes complicated when the North and South factions of the Union become increasingly tense and eventually war is declared. Her father goes off to war, as does one of her cousins - but he has enlisted on the opposing side. Melody's loyalties are stretched to breaking point and little does she know that her personal abilities will prove a decisive factor in the fate of her family. 12 year old Marshall loves going out shooting rabbits with his older brother, Jeffrey, who he looks up to so much. Times are good in their family until Jeffrey goes off to fight in the Civil War, on the other side to his uncle. Nothing in his young life has prepared Marshall for the realities of war, or the desperate fortunes Jeffrey and his fellow soldiers are experiencing.
