Geraldine, champion dancer and on the look out for true love, is appalled to find that she'd been allotted to her mother and her Home Help clients for her school's work experience week. During the week she gets to know Miss Richardson, a retired headmistress, battling for her independence against her frailty and against the pragmatic Miss Fowles, who would put her in a residential home. She also meets a new dancing partner, the beautiful Sunil, who is Asian, and the residents cared for at Aunty Bev's home. By the end of the week Geraldine's life has changed completely, and for the better.
