"Nobody's Girl" and "Nobody's Boy" are classic novels by Hector Malot that follow the adventures of two orphaned youths, Rémi and Camille. Rémi, a young boy sold into servitude, travels through the French countryside with a traveling musician. Along the way, he forms strong bonds with various characters, discovering compassion and resilience despite hardship. Camille, a young girl, faces her own struggles as she seeks love and belonging. Both stories explore themes of family, friendship, and the search for identity, ultimately highlighting the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Hector Malot (May 20, 1830 - July 17, 1907) was a French writer born in La Bouille, Seine-Maritime. In total Malot wrote over 70 books. By far his most famous book is Sans Famille (Nobody's Boy, 1878), which deals with the travels of the young orphan Remi, who is sold to the street musician Vitalis at age 10. Sans Famille gained fame as a children's book, though it was not originally intended as such.
