George Orwell was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, yet his writing was very much shaped by the times through which he lived. Class struggle, the events of the Russian Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, the rule of fascist dictators and the outbreak of World War II have all in some way been featured in his works, which include the classic novels "Animal Farm" and "Nineteen Eighty-Four". Throughout all his writings, however, Orwell's unique socialist and humanitarian outlook continues to shine through. This title looks at Orwell's life, including his background and aspects of his daily life and examines the ways in which his work reflected and shaped social and cultural changes. The text features panels including quotations and background information and a timeline of key events and significant works.
