Shortlisted for the 1995 Smarties Book Prize (6-8 category), this is Grace Nichol's second book of poems for children. This collection reflects Grace Nichols' love of life as well as her more serious concerns. Nichols won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize in 1983 for "I is a long memoried woman".

After a long career as a secondary school teacher Gillian gave it up to become a children's writer. She has had 7 books published, two with Tamarind, and a further three expected in the next year. She lives in Leicester with her husband and assorted cats. She has a large extended family with twelve grandchildren who keep her in touch with her young readers! Kim Harley has illustrated thirteen books. She is a Lecturer on the Degree in Children's Illustrations Course at the North Wales Institute. She lives on the Wirral. Grace Nichols is one of the most exciting poets writing today. She is currently Poet-in-Residence at the Tate Gallery. Grace lives in Sussex.
