Following on from the corresponding book for Key Stage 3, this book contains about 60 pre-20th-century poems from the GCSE syllabuses, together with some 20th-century poems for comparison. Many are by women, and some little-known. They are arranged to link directly with syllabus themes: relationships, conflict, people, times and places, and reflections. Overview activities encourage pupils to compare and contrast poems on similar topics, and each poem is accompanied by an illustration, background information on the poem and poet, glossaries of difficult words and phrases, and differentiated activities and GCSE practice questions.

This book is at the following key stages: Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 . A key stage is any of the fixed stages into which the national curriculum is divided, each having its own prescribed course of study. At the end of each stage, pupils are required to complete standard assessment tasks. KS3 covers school years 7, 8 and 9, and ages 12-14 years. KS4 covers school years 10 and 11, and ages 15-16 years.
