Based on a true story, this tells the tale of Thembi, an HIV-positive woman training to run the Comrades Marathon. She wants to run the marathon before she dies. The story explores her training programme and how she felt while training. Readers get an idea of what it is like to train for a marathon. At the end, she completes the marathon with the support of her brother and her friends.

Sharlene Johnson is an experienced secondary school teacher. She was HIV AIDS Coordinator for the Ministry of Education, Guyana, and head of the Ministry's School Health, Nutrition and HIV AIDS Department. A member of the Caribbean HIV and AIDS Coordinators Network, she has advised on school materials for the region. Dr Gisela Winkler has taught in schools in a variety of countries. She has been a teacher trainer (both in-service and pre-service) in Southern Africa for many years, has worked on HIV and AIDS education projects and published a number of books, training manuals and learner materials that focus on HIV and AIDS. Maren Bodenstein has worked in teacher education over two decades. She designed and implemented a teacher training programme on HIV and AIDS in South Africa and has been involved with life skills programmes and publications.
