Gillian Shields was born and brought up in Yorkshire. She read english and Cambridge and then trained as an actress before teaching acting and becoming director of a London drama school. She now lives in the country, and teaches drama and English, part-time, in a local school Dubravka Kolanovic lives in Zagreb, Croatia. She wrote and illustrated her first book, A Special Day, when she was 18-years-old. She then studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Zagreb and has gone on to illustrate over twenty children's books
