Ellie is staying with her grandmother for a few days while her mother is in hospital. One morning, when Ellie and Nanna are walking along the beach, they find a lost kitten, which they take him home and look after. Ellie is so sad when the kitten has to go back to his mother, but comes home to find her own mother is there waiting for her. A warm atmospheric picture book about a close relationship between a small girl and her grandmother and the joy that is brought by being reunited with her mother.

Karin Littlewood has recently started illustrating children's books - she spends time in inner city schools painting and drawing the children. She lives in London. Gillian Lobel gave up teaching to write for children and went on to become an established author, well-known for her picture books, including Orchard's Ellie and the Butterfly Kitten. But in this, her first novel for teenagers, she shows that she has a strong, authentic voice that will appeal to older readers too. Gillian lives in Leicester.
