Georgia Ball's family moved frequently for her father's refinery career during her early years, living in Houston, Port Arthur and Bellingham, WA before settling in Beaumont again for eight years. She pursued a computer science degree at Georgia Tech, ignored a professor's suggestion that she move into the scientific writing program and eventually transferred to the Savannah College of Art and Design. While in Georgia she worked for several years as a Flash animator for IBM and the Cartoon Network, where she met and married fellow animator Scott Ball. They collaborated on a series of animated shorts and games and promoted them by launching a webcomic called "Scooter and Ferret" in 2004. While Georgia grew as a web developer, she also had to grow as a writer to keep the strip afloat.
