Zowey Corby lives with her gran and her older brother, Gowie, in Black Cat Lane. When posh Lucy Leadley-Brown joins her class at Cricklepit Combined School, Zowie isn't sure she's going to like her. Lucy is unhappy in her new school where life is very strange and alarming.
