Born in London, Rachel Pank spent a good part of her childhood reading and drawing. At school, in order to make lessons more interesting, she illustrated most of her schoolwork. On leaving school Rachel worked as a secretary, attending life classes and painting at a local adult education institute in the evenings. From there she went on to the University of Wales, where she studied Visual Art. She is now married and lives in London with her husband Martin, their son Leo and their cat Daisy. Jamila Gavin used to be a concert pianist. She also worked for the BBC. She is now an award-winning writer. She has two grown-up children and lives in Stroud.
