A new historical fiction series set in a Victorian manor house. The masters don't always behave as well as they could and the staff have to make up for their failings. "Upstairs Downstairs" for Key Stage 2. In SMUGGLERS ON THE BEACH, Fergus and Albert become involved in a smuggling operation on New Year's Eve. At first it seems that the police and the gentry are on to them, but it becomes slowly apparent that everyone in the area is in on the act. Old Edward de Ray has some smuggled lace - who can it possibly be for? In THE STRIKE, some of the workers at Jack de Ray's factory are on strike. Vincent works at the big house, but his Dad is running the strike. Loyalties are torn, and the lot of the poor at the hands of their powerful superiors is starkly portrayed as Vincent is framed for robbery by Jack de Ray.
