In chronological order, this book introduces the major historical and social events which rocked Britain in the Second World War. Major events such as the declaration of war, the threat of invasion, D-Day and VE Day are covered as well as the social impact of rationing, war savings, black outs, gas masks and air raid precautions. Readers are also introduced to the major personalities of the day including The Royal Family, Winston Churchill and Hitler. A wide range of visual sources of information are used such as artefacts, contemporary illustrations, photographs and posters to really bring the subject to life.
