Edward Blishen was a recognised expert authority on children's literature. In 1970, he won the Carnegie Medal jointly with Leon Garfield for The God Beneath the Sea. He also compiled the acclaimed anthology, Children's Classics to Read Aloud, published by Kingfisher. Together with his wife Nancy he compiled several anthologies for Kingfisher, including The Kingfisher Treasury of Stories for Children. Edward Blishen died in 1996.
