"The Cask of Amontillado" is a haunting tale by Edgar Allan Poe that unfolds in the depths of the Italian catacombs during Carnival. Montresor, the narrator, seeks revenge against his friend Fortunato, who has wronged him. Under the guise of friendship, Montresor lures Fortunato into the catacombs with the promise of a rare Amontillado wine. As they journey deeper into the eerie tunnels, the atmosphere becomes progressively more sinister. Ultimately, Montresor's chilling intent becomes clear, leading to a dark and shocking conclusion that explores themes of betrayal, themes of pride, and the consequences of vengeance.
