"The Red Badge of Courage" by Michael Burgan is a retelling of Stephen Crane's classic novel, focusing on the psychological experiences of a young soldier named Henry Fleming during the American Civil War. As he faces the realities of battle for the first time, Henry grapples with fear, courage, and his desire for glory. Confronted by the chaos of war and his own cowardice, he ultimately must navigate his internal struggles and find his own definition of bravery. Through his journey, readers witness his transformation from a romanticized view of war to a deeper understanding of honor and manhood amidst the harsh realities of conflict.
