Hans Christian Andersen's powerful and haunting tale describes how a one-legged tin soldier falls in love with a proud dancer from the same toy collection. The soldier valiantly endures the various trials inflicted on him because of his love, remaining steadfast until he meets his end, and beyond.

He is Denmark's most famous author and his birthday is celebrated every year with a part called "Odin Story Day". P. J. Lynch is one of the most talented illustrators working today. He has won many awards, including the Mother Goose Award, the Irish Bisto Award (twice) and the Kate Greenaway Medal (twice). He lives in Dublin. Edith Nesbit was an English author and poet who published over 60 books of fiction for children under her pen name E. Nesbit.
