Sheila Lavelle was born in Gateshead, County Durham in 1939. She was inspired to write her own stories after becoming a junior school teacher. Her first book, URSULA BEAR, was published in 1977. She went on to write several Ursula Bear adventures, as well as the much-loved MY BEST FIEND series. Martin Taylor studied for a BA (Hons) in Graphic Information Design in Cornwall. He loves making pop-up books and is delighted that his daughter has followed in his footsteps! Duncan Smith has loved drawing since the age of six. He graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) and has illustrated for magazines, as well as writing and illustrating many children's books.
