The RATS are the Rescue Agent Team, four children on a mission to save someone or something so when they find milk is being stolen and a shortage of money is forcing the animal sanctuary to close, they set out to find the culprit. The big reward means the animal sanctuary could be kept open but when the milk mugger turns out to be an old lady who is using the milk to help feed the animals in the sanctuary what are they to do and when the local newspaper editor finds out that they have a story, he wants the RATS to tell all.

Peter Viska began his career as a cartoonist in 1969, when he created children's pages for magazines such as The Daily Mirror . During the 1970s, Peter undertook a number of political and freelance cartoonist roles before turning to book illustration in the 1980s, when he illustrated the Far Out series. In 1980 Peter established Mickey Duck Animation Co, specialising in character animation. In 1992, Peter incorporated Viskatoons to broaden and develop the television series and animation feature films operation arm of the company. He lives in Melbourne. Dr Graham Lawler is the writer and broadcaster known as Mr Educator. He can be heard on a number of BBC Stations around the UK, and now on LBC Radio in London. Sandy Fussell lives south of Sydney, Australia. She studied mathematics at university, is intensely interested in history and now works in IT. Rhian Nest James started working as a freelance illustrator in 1987 and has since illustrated over sixty children's books. Rhian moved to Sydney, Australia from her native Wales in 2002.
