Ian Serraillier (September 24, 1912 - November 28, 1994), was a British novelist and poet. Serraillier was best known for his children's books, especially the Silver Sword (Novel) (1956), a wartime adventure story which was adapted for television by the BBC in 1957 and again in 1971. Penelope Lively was born in Cairo Egypt. She came to England when she was 12 years old. She went to school in Sussex and studied at Oxford. She has written many award winning adult and children's books and now lives in London. She has four grandchildren. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humourist. Dodie Smith was born in 1896. She made her name as a playwright before moving to the US in the 1940s where she began writing novels including I Capture the Castle in 1948 and her best-known work, The Hundred and One Dalmatians, in 1956. Neil Philip is a writer and a critic with an interest in the fairy tale. Authors featuring on this anthology include Margaret Mahy, Allan Ahlberg, Dick King-Smith, Adele Geras, Michael Rosen, Linda Allen and Vivian French Christine Nostlinger is one of the most popular writers in Europe today and her books have been translated into many languages. A number of her books have been turned into films in Germany. In 1984 she won the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Medal.
