This title is intended for ages 6 and upwards. This sumptuously illustrated book invites children to closely observe the birds, plants, and animals that inhabit the unique environment of Kakadu, in the northern territory of Australia, by presenting the six Aboriginal seasons and their characteristics. Offering a holistic approach to the climate and life in Kakadu, it emphasises making children feel part of the landscape. This book also explores educational themes including seasons in the tropics, stories from the land, cultural and indigenous studies, language studies, and art, with detailed teachers' notes for each.

Diane Lucas currently works as an ethnocologist with her husband. They travel around northern Australia doing work related to this as well as botanical and fire ecology work. Diane was a school teacher on an Aboriginal outstation in Kakadu during 1983 and 84. From 1991 to 96 she worked on a research project documenting traditional resources on the South Alligator River floodplain and surrounds. She now lives only two hours from Kakadu and maintains a strong relationship with the people and country there. Illustrator bio:Ken Searle is a painter and illustrator who is represented in major galleries in Australia and internationally. He designed and facilitated the illustratons done by over 40 Anangu staff and students for Papunya School Book of Country and History (Papunya School, A+U 2001), designed When I Was Little Like You (Mary Malbunka, A+U 2002) and illustrated Lucy in the Leap Year (Nadia Wheatley, Omnibus, 1993. Nadia Wheatley writes for both adults and young people. Her award-winning books cover the genres of fiction, history, biography and picture books, and reflect her commitment to social justice. Nadia's first book, Five Times Dizzy, was often described as the first multicultural children's book in this country. Ken Searlegrew up around the Cooks River, in the south-west suburbs of Sydney, where he still lives. He is best known for his large paintings in oil on canvas, depicting the suburban and industrial areas of a number of Australian cities. As well, he has painted the landscapes of the Western Desert and of the southern coastline.
