The first time that many children have difficulty with Mathematics is when they come across subtraction. Addition is no problem for most children. Dr. Bramwell has discovered an amazing new way to subtract whole numbers which involve the following skills: 1. Subtraction from numbers up to 10. 2. Adding single digits whose sum is a single digit. He has taken the taxing bit out of subtraction (ie: when you have to subtract a single digit number from a two digit number eg 15 - 7). This is a requirement of all the traditional subtraction methods. He thus makes subtraction much easier. The pupils gain confidence because the method is so easy to grasp that they end up seeing themselves as "mathematics capable" rather than "mathematics incapable." The book also includes Dr. Bramwell's novel method of mental subtraction. In the appendix he explains the surprisingly simple reason why his subtraction method works.
