Deborah Nash took her degree in French and Art. In 1988-89 she spent ten months in China on a British Council scholarship, studying art and travelling to many of the places in the book and bringing back an exhibition of woodcut prints, which is now in the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath. Richard Morgan is an up-and-coming children's book illustrator, who published his first two toddler books with The Bodley Head in 2000. His previous jobs include working for Disney and creating characters for greeting cards.
